About Les Ross

Hello,

Welcome to my golf blog.  My name is Les Ross. I am the owner of the online golf school Highlander LLC School of Golf and author of “Breaking the Distance Barrier” …a golf book with a different approach to teaching the swing which is based on the “Physics of Golf”.

I have been teaching and writing about golf for several years. Before I set up my golfing instruction company, I was a mechanical engineer for many years (hence the nickname “golf mechanic”) and a fitness instructor coaching physcial conditioning for several sports, one of which is rugby.

I set up my company after observing how the modern game is progressing with a high emphasis on technology and golf fitness, knowing that I can bring unique skills in this regard over and above many other golf instructors.

Having studied the golf swing for many years from a physics and mechanics point of view, I am able to guide the student towards optimizing their swing performance using a “Laws of Motion” approach that is based on proven scientific theory and not on the latest ”new swing theory” that comes along claiming to change the golfing world.

Understanding the physics and mechaincs of the swing gives the student a deeper understanding of not just “how” to swing in a particular manner, but “why” a certain technique works…a factor that is often missed by other instruction material.

Knowing the physics of the golf swing, I am a true believer that every golfer has a “natural” swing range within which they will achieve optimum swing performance. All of my teaching focuses around showing the student how to determine that swing range and how to “match their swings to their physique” to get the most out of their swings, regardless of their size, shape or flexibility.

I find some fault with many swing development programs that are based around the techniques of top performing professionals who have taken years to develop their golf “physiques” that encourage the average golfer to swing well beyond their physical range of motions. My material will reference the techniques of professionals, but keeps the student focused playing within their own physical limitations.

By helping each student to understand their physcial limitations, I encourage them to work on their golf fitness. The top players did not reach their performance level by technique alone. It takes hard physical conditioning and long practice time to developed their golf physique…

You will find a lot of my material is a little more technical than most authors, but I try hard to keep the content of my blogs at a level that can be easily understood by even the most ”technically illiterate”.

I also run a newsletter on my golf site that includes articles on playing golf in Scotland that introduces you to some beautiful courses that you may not have heard of in the golfing media. Having spent many years living in Scotland, I have a fond regard for Scottish golf and the magnificant courses that can be found in every corner of the coutry. Register to be keep up to date with the latest article releases.

Even though my home state of California boasts some of the best and most beautiful courses in the world, nothing matches the excitement of tackling the “true elements” of a North Easter blowing across even the “least known” of Scottish links course tucked in somewhere along the coast that has more golfing history than even the oldest of courses here in California.

I hope you enjoy the material. I look forward to hearing from you at any time and welcome any of your thoughts or discussion points.

Regards,

Les Ross
